History The Free Clinic of Kalamazoo is a volunteer-based, free health clinic found in 1993 to offer excellent medical treatment, health education, advocacy, and referral to the estimated 32,000 uninsured residents of Kalamazoo County. More than 350 volunteers provide a wide range of health-related services. During its first twelve years, the clinic was known as the First Presbyterian Church Health Clinic, and was located in downtown Kalamazoo. In 2005, planned renovations to the church building provided the clinic with an excellent opportunity to evaluate its current services and attempt to forecast future needs. A decision was made to purchase and renovate a former warehouse at 2918 Portage St, located in an area where, at the time, more than 40% of the clinic's clients resided. The clinic reopened at its new location in March of 2006 and has since extended its services and hours of operation as the need for such an organization has grown. Staff The clinic is staffed by several full-time employees including a Physician's Assistant, Social Worker Coordinator, Nursing Coordinator, Pharmacy Supervisor, Hub Manager and Executive Director. |
